Homicides skyrocketed by 29 percent. … Larceny, theft, burglary, aggravated assault, robbery and rape are among the most reported crimes in the U.S. … “NYPD statistics show that violent crime is up by over 25 percent in the city.
Jeffrey Butts: “Yes, we have homicides in New York City. Some of them are horrific; some of them are on film. So, it’s hard to look away. But, there are 8 million people here, so there are going to be things that happen. If you look across the country in a per capita basis, or the probability or your chances of being harmed by a gun, New York City’s often not in the top ten.” … “We can’t get to the point where we think this level of violence is normal and just grow to accept it. We have to continue to try to push down the numbers.”
